Love the open water but not the threat of sharks along the South African coastline? Consider investing in an Electronic Shark Defence System (ESDS). This device has been tried, tested and proven successful in repelling sharks.
Sharks have a sense called electroreception that allows them to receive small electrical signals. The ESDS works by emitting a high voltage proprietary signal to deter sharks. The ESDS was developed by long-time Honolulu surfer Wilson Vinano Jr. who believes he’s finally cracked the code to deterring sharks.
Vinano’s device measures in at two inches and weighs around seven ounces. It can be attached to a surfboard leash, but can also be adjusted to be worn by divers. The ESDS comes with a built-in battery that can last up to nine hours and then recharged much like a cell phone.
