The kings of sporting gear Adidas have taken social media integration to the upper echelons by creating a shoe that can actually receive tweets.
The Adidas legacy of being the frontrunners of the sneaker world is further catalysed by their new show-pony aptly named Adidas Social Media Shoe. Adidas have created the sneaker by bestowing the Adidas Barricade tennis sneaker with some technological savvy. The shoe has been equipped with an Arduino unit, an external LCD that displays information for the user, as well as built-in customized software that polls the Twitter APIs and shares specific data. Talk about tweeting on the run!
The implications of this could mean that the Adidas Social Media Shoe is the future of athlete connectivity. The tech-boost for Adidas has been made possible by customizer NASH Money and it should be ready for production by 2016. It would be indeed spectacular if athletes are receiving tweets as soon as they cross the finish line. Adidas commented, “You’ve got fans tweeting athletes, athletes tweeting fans, and to top that, you have an Adidas sneaker that lets you tweet an athlete while they’re on the court. In 2016, every athlete might have a shoe like this.”
