Last week we wrote about the reasons why you should get the iPad. In this post we will give you a few reasons why you shouldn’t, or at least why you should think twice before getting it.
The iPad does not have a camera. The iPhone comes with a camera that can take pictures and record videos and so does the Macbook, yet this portable device with all its multimedia wonders, does not.
The iPad seems to be made for the typical male. It can only do one thing at a time. This means no Pandora playing some music whilst reading your favourite book. Well, this is not entirely true because only “third-party” apps cannot be run simultaneously and towards the end of the year the new iPads will have a basic form of multitasking allowing music, VOIP and location-based apps to run in the background, and up to four third-party apps will have their state saved in the background (so they won’t really be running).
Onto point three and this is more of an irritation than a problem. You are “locked-in” to using Apple-only products. You have to use iTunes, where you access the App Store, and then you can only use Apple approved peripherals. With Apple products being so expensive for the South African market it makes it difficult to purchase stuff that makes your iPad unique. It removes the choice which of which we have become so fond.
The last reason is probably the most obvious and most important. Why do you actually need an iPad? Besides the “cool” factor the iPad is no iPhone that you can slip into your pocket and it is not the best device to use when watching DVDs in bed or creating spreadsheets using the none-existent keyboard? It’s just not that practical.
Let us know in the comments below why you think people should not get an iPad? If you think people should be getting the iPad tell us here, too.
