Just when we thought that a 1080p HD LED TV was the ultimate home entertainment, a few of the major brands decided that it is time to give us a wakeup call. The new standard will be 3D television in your home!
Samsung and Sony are really setting the pace with 3D TVs already being available in South Africa. Now just imagine this: watching your favourite movie, or even the Soccer World Cup finals, in 3D right from your living room. All you need is the 3D television and a pair of the 3D glasses.
Wait… did we just say that you will be sitting in your own house sporting a pair of 3D glasses and that every guest who wants to experience 3D must wear a pair themselves? Yes we did. The biggest downfall of current 3D technology is the fact that you have to wear those glasses to appreciate the 3D TV and it would be poor form inviting over 20 of your mates for the World Cup Final and running out of glasses.
We have heard of TVs being built that allow for 3D without the glasses, but we don’t expect that to come around in the next few years. So for now, we will sport our 3D glasses and just hope we have no uninvited guests who don’t have their own 3D glasses…
