Chris Malloy, the brains behind the Hover Bike is sleek, capable of high performance and carries a $40 000 price tag. It is however very useful as a logistical vehicle and will definitely provide many a men with hours of living out their childhood dreams of owning a futuristic bike.

The hovercraft is capable of speeds of up to 280km/h and can climb to a height of 10 000 feet. Weighing in at 108kg, the Hover Bike utilises the same flight mechanism as a helicopter, equipped with a 1 170cc 4-stroke engine welded to two massive 80kW rotor blades, delivering 294kg of thrust. And thanks to its custom carbon fiber driveshaft, frame, seat and propellers, you can travel up to 160km on a single tank of fuel. Technically, the Hover Bike would be classed as an “ultralite”, which means you won’t need a pilot’s licence to have one. Having said that, you’d had to learn how to ride something that’s a cross between a helicopter and a bike.

The Hover Bike will be ideal for rescue workers, aerial surveying, wildlife and parks and will definitely add to the film industry. But it was Malloy’s idea to bring the Hover Bike to the average Joe that inspired him to spend every penny he had between jobs and studying to bring this concept to life. We think Malloy deserves a pat on the back – now, if we can just learn how to fly a helicopter…
