The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive is about as subtle as a Manchester United kit clad person at a Liverpool convention, but it’s a beautiful ride and an incredible machine.
It is dressed in a shocking blue, the kind of blue you could get if you mix a tribesman from Avatar with liquid nitrogen… Maybe that’s a little dramatic, but the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive is nothing short of dramatic and then some. Firstly unlike most badass rides, this one lets you ride dirty guilt free. You don’t have to worry about nasty emissions ripping the ozone layer a new one as it is fired up by lithium-ion batteries that can be fully charged via the custom charger. There is also a quick charge feature that makes provision to recharge the vehicle. The sight-stage safety design regularly checks the electrical system.
The original V8 has been given the boot in exchange for the eco-friendly electric motors. There are four in total, one for each wheel. A collective effort kicks out an incredible pulsating 750 horsepower which is almost 200 horsepower more than the gasoline-powered version. It also produces 552 Kw and a maximum torque of about1000 Nm. With a top speed of 250km/h, life in the fast lane will become a common occurrence. This chromed smurfed beast can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds. Safety takes precedence, and the ceramic composite brakes provide the ultimate braking power for whatever condition may arise. Its asking price is a tad bit crazy priced at over $500 000 but it’s worth every cent… The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive is expected to be released by July 2013.
