With an $8-million price tag, chiselled features that would put George Clooney to shame and the sex appeal of an army of Heidi Klum clones, the Maybach Exelero is auto perfection. It is also, much like the Klum Clone Army, a distant dream for pretty much 90% of the world’s population.
The Maybach is a product of Exelero who built the car as a once off commission for tyre company Fulda. The 2 660kg car can reach speeds of 350km/h thanks to the two V12 turbo engine, 700hp and the obscene vulgarity of the Maybach’s 25/65/36 tyres. It can do 0-60 in 4.4 seconds and is faster than the Ferrari Enzo – which is slower than a Bugatti Veyron – but Veyron simply can’t compete with the Batman cartoon-like, jaw-dropping effect it exudes.
The car’s design was the result of a competition amongst students at the Pforzheim Polytechnic Department of Transport Design, which has worked on show vehicles for Fulda in the past. The design of 24-year-old Fredrik Burchhardt was chosen, and his work was co-ordinated with that of the Maybach design centre in Sindelfingen.
While the plebs can only dream of taking the Maybach out on the open road, multi-platinum selling rapper Birdman recently placed his order with Daimler’s ultra-high-end division.
