As strong as an ox, as sly as a fox and a new simile that can be added is as fast as an Ariel Atom 3.5.
Driving extraordinaire and car guru Jeremy Clarson said that he has never driven anything that accelerated so fast, giving a whole new meaning to the term put foot. For him to make a statement like that makes one believe that its acceleration capabilities probably reside in the breeches of supersonic.
It is an upgrade on the Ariel Atom. The standard Atom had a 2.0-litre Honda iVTEC K20Z4 engine and pushed out 245bhp (normally aspirated). The updated Ariel Atom 3.5 slugs it out at 310bhp yielding more midrange power and changes to the engine mapping and fuel system. This is one crazy ride and when you let that foot get a little loose, you will get a close facsimile of how the Flash views the world. The exclusion of doors, a roof and a windscreen makes it look a little Mad Maxesque but boy oh boy it’s one helluva ride.
The supercharged Atom makes it well just… super, smashing the acceleration line by going from 0-60mph in only 2.7 seconds, and hitting 0-100mph in just 6.7 seconds, and has a top speed of 155mph . The chassis have taken its cues from the V8 and Mugen Limited Editions. Engine mountings have been revised and new dampers promotes better balance and traction.The Ariel Atom 3.5 sports new headlights, LED indicators and even LED lights at the back. Its new LCD display will give you all your vital stats and there is a gear indicator that has shift lights. Considering its aggressive, raw power… if you plan on letting loose with this machine, make sure you carry an extra change of underwear.
