If you’re into surfing some of the world’s most awesome waves and doing it in an unrestrained setting, then Bali, Indonesia is the ideal place for an adventure getaway.
Although Australian surfers made Bali popular as a surfing destination in the 60s, this prime destination has been surfed since the 30s and sports great breaks like Kuta Reef, Canggu, Sanur and Nusa Dua.
Kuta for instance, with its southern swell, carries four to five foot waves and is most ideal with a south east wind direction. It can get a bit crowded here, especially during the dry season (May to September). It does sport a number of excellent hollow barrel section though. If you are slightly less experienced, there are a number of surf schools on hand to show you the ropes.
Padang Galak on the far side of Sanur is a beach break with standard right and left waves that will suit all levels of surfers. The break generally suits all tides and works best on a south west or southerly swell of three to eight feet with winds from the north west or west.
Serangan just outside Nusa Dua is most popular during the wet season (November to April) and sports swells of up to six feet. Keep in mind, although this is now a very popular spot, the early mornings are usually the best time for some open water.
Accommodation in Bali ranges from five star to budget. But if you want to make your Bali surfing holiday a lasting memory, then Nusa Dua’s Nikko Bali Resort is definitely a good choice.
Nikko Bali Resort is situated on a 40m cliff and is home to 390 rooms. This five-star resort offers four inter-connected pools, golfing, tennis courts, five restaurants, three bars and enough nightlife entertainment to make you want to call home and quit your job!
The waves in Nusa Dua can get you up to eight feet and this break is very popular during the wet season. According to locals, the best thing with this break is that the actual reef stretches over a very large area and there are at least three or four take off spots to surf.
Villa Pushpapuri on Bali’s sout-east coast is just outside of the small town of Ketewel, Sanur. It is the absolute beachfront villa with an enormous 20m infinity pool, four bedrooms, games room, hi-tech cinema room. The Living and Dining Pavilion is a free standing building with three all glass sides to maximise your ocean view experience.
So, pack your bags, get that sex wax and head to Bali for a surf adventure holiday you’ll never forget.
