One of South Africa’s most famous racing circuits, Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, is preparing to host the sixth round of the FIM Superbike World Championship. That dates are set for the 14th – 16th May 2010 and all the top teams will be competing for top honours and vital points midway through the championship.
This is currently the biggest motorsport event that South Africa will host with 10 countries, including South Africa, contesting two 24-lap Superbike races on Sunday 16th May 2010. There will also be support races from the World Supersport Series, and the local superbikes and Supersport Series.
Last year’s round was held on a revised version of Kyalami as a result of requirements by the FIA and FIM, the world controlling bodies for automobiles and motorcycles respectively, with the principal change being the modification of what was a chicane at the penultimate corner and is now turn 13. For this year’s round the FIM required modifications to the pit exit for safety reasons and to avoid bikes joining the circuit on the racing line for turn one.
