The EGO-Kit is an electric motor that fits on to a downhill mountain bike, adding some extra oomph and replacing the need of a chairlift to get it to the top of a mountain.
The motor is seriously high-torque and kicks out about 1200W of power and can hit a ceiling of 2400W. The motor is powered by a 8V lithium-iron phosphate battery (contained in a backpack). The battery is one tough cookie and depending on the grade, it will tally up a range of 40 kilometres, hits a top speed of 40mph and only needs an hour and a half to fully charge. You will not notice the added weight as it does not affect the handling. It is an exciting tool that allows you to access your favourite freeride terrain and you can have loads of fun goofing around with your bike’s newfound muscle. Now you can ride virtually anywhere, which was not previously possible due to the weight of some of these bikes. Going from one peak to the next is no longer a laborious task thanks to the EGO-Kit.
Operating it is fairly straight-forward to use and its low centre of gravity lets you take the tricky corners in stride. Apparently the bike is compatible with around 70 percent of mountain bikes that are currently being sold but hopefully and chances are, your bike will fall in that bracket. Adding on the kit is sure to make you feel like you are riding a new bike.
