American golfer Phil Mickelson has won the first major of the year. He won the Masters with a total score of 16 under par.
Mickleson started the last round in second place, on a score of 11 under, after a great back nine in the third round, leaving him looking like the man to beat as he walked into the clubhouse on Saturday afternoon.
If Sunday was going to be anything like Saturday we would be in for a treat. We were definitely not left disappointed. Korean K.J. Choi was looking very solid in the front nine and by the early part of the back nine he did look like a threat but made a few errors before the end of his round. Anthony Kim made a late charge with a final round of seven under to finish on 12 under. Tiger Woods finished on 11 under for the tournament after a very “unTiger” like final round of three under.
Lee Westwood went into the final round as leader and continued to compete for the lead through all 18 holes of the last round. It was not enough for an on-form Phil Mickelson who was playing some great shots to finish on a tournament winning five under par. This is Phil Mickelson’s third Masters title.
