Boxing fans can expect a fantastic treat when the enigmatic WBO welterweight champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KO’s) squares off against the durable and game Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez (53-5-1, 39 KO’s) to round off their trilogy.
Their first meeting occurred in 2004 and ended in a controversial draw. One of the judges made an error in scoring which cost Pacman the bout. In 2008, a rematch was held and Pacquiao won a split decision victory over Marquez. To date, some fight fans argue that Marquez was robbed.
Marquez will certainly face a stern test in Pacquiao who has been on a tear, and as of late, makes opponents look painfully average. Pacquiao is also larger since their previous encounters, so Marquez certainly has his work cut out for him. Understandably so, Pacquiao will be a heavy favourite when they meet in November, however it will be rather foolish to count out Dinamita (a man who is crazy enough to drink his own urine to not waste vitamins!). He is convinced that he was robbed in the first two bouts, so psychologically he may have an edge as he has proved he is a worthy opponent and a legit threat. Controversy and an intriguing storyline will definitely help promote this matchup.
Pacman is certainly not overlooking his foe and some boxing pundits have said that he should do a warm up fight before he fights Marquez. Mayweather has not manned up so award Marquez his full kudos set for stepping up.
