The boxing world recently made a startling revelation when retired boxing legend, Oscar De La Hoya publically announced that he had dabbled with cocaine and he had been at loggerheads with an alcohol addiction. He mentioned that flirting with cocaine was a recent occurrence, but he had developed an alcohol dependency about two and a half years ago. Aptly nicknamed “Golden Boy”, he is one of the most endearing figures in the boxing world.

He has suffered a severe downward spiral and even spoke about infidelity. De La Hoya said that in terms of cheating, while he was not in the same league as scandal-clad golfer, Tiger Woods, his situation was out of control. Sadly, the former boxing legend could not keep his inner demons at bay and even contemplated suicide. He admitted that he did not follow through with his suicidal thoughts as he “did not have the courage.”
He retired from boxing in 2009 after enjoying an illustrious career which included him winning ten world titles in six different divisions
Currently the Golden Boy is vice free and is attending Alcoholics Anonymous.
