There is speculation that Africa, more precisely South Africa, will be seeing Formula 1 sometime in the future. If this is true then we will be experiencing a grand prix for the first time since 1993.
These rumours started in July during the soccer World Cup when F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone said there were plans for the construction of a new GP circuit in Cape Town. In his words, “The chances are OK” for SA to see another F1 GP which means either we are not good enough for the tough F1 standards or the F1 board does not meet BEE criteria; I’m going for the latter.
This is exciting news so let’s hope that South Africa does pull some kind of deal together.
