EFC Africa is back and ready for round three of Africa’s biggest MMA championship. Featuring another great fight card with 24 eager-to-go professional fighters, it can’t get more thrilling than this.
New talent to EFC Africa, hailing from Cape Town, is middleweight Paul Terblanche. He is an all-round MMA fighter with what is described in MMA circles as “farm boy strength”, and will be going up against Juan Lubbe, a Krugersdorp fighter, who has a point to prove after a massive defeat by EFC Africa favourite “Soldierboy” Garreth McLellan, in EFC AFRICA 02.
“I want to shake Garreth’s hand for showing me what MMA is about. No more Mr Nice Guy, I’m coming to destroy Paul” says Juan when matching him for this fight.
Another Cape Town local is Russell van Heerden, an MMA veteran who once defeated the top-ranked Chris Bright, whom after almost six years away from the cage, looks set to make a comeback against Adam Speechly (Speechly is currently 9-1-0).
A hugely anticipated match up is the Costa Ioannou versus Brendon Katz fight. Ioannou, the humble Bedfordview local hailing from the legendary Rodney King MMA School, has accepted this fight knowing full well that it is against a tactician; Katz, is Neil Diesel’s protégée. The true context of this match up is that Katz dislikes anyone he fights with immense intensity, and further still is exacerbated by the fact that the coaches of these two young talents have had such a turbulent past.
Other Fights to Look Out For:
The fight between Dino Bagattin versus Manny Da Silva, with the East versus South, and a match up that makes for a great stand up war.
Chris Bright, with a massive knowledge and foot holding in the sport, will take on Ian Swart, a street-wise hard head, where we’ll see the old bull versus the young bull.
Finally, the first title fight that EFC Africa will be showcasing will see Wentzel Nel versus Leo Gloss for the Lightweight Title. Gloss is known for the most deadly right hand in the MMA game and even more remarkably, a chin to match (his recent fight against Ian Swart would attest to that fact). Nel is a real athlete and is sure to attempt his ferocious tackles on Gloss with his super-aggressive style. Both men have a 6-1-0 record and with an extra two rounds in this title fight, they have plenty of time to break each other down.
With a fight card that includes four fighters from Cape Town, two from Port Elizabeth, one from East London, and two Durbanites, there will be an excess of talent and surely another great event put on by the team at EFC Africa.
