No matter how much of foresight that an ardent fashionista may possess, they eventually revert to retro because nothing enunciates cool better than retro clothing. That being said, have a look at these funky revamped retro sneakers – too awesome for words.
Nike Air Force 1 Downtown “Ironman”
The Air Force 1 range has been a popular sneaker line for many years and is an integral signifier of hip-hop culture. In light of the third installment of the Marvel Comics movie series, Ironman – Nike has launched the Air Force 1 Downtown “Ironman”. It maintains the classic Air Force 1 shape and has been jazzed up with some glossy metallic colour. Paying homage to Ironman, it is coloured in burgundy and gold – the same colours as the Ironman suit. While it may be too hood for Tony Stark, it is still a slick pair of sneakers.
Nike Air Jordan XX8
Air Jordans are an age old basketball sneaker that has been favoured on the courts and on the street – quintessential urban gear. This Michael Jordan tribute shoe has been given a trendy facelift. The Air Jordan XX8 is military inspired and is accompanied by a carbon fiber shank plate that is housed within Schoeller mesh and Swiss fabric. Don’t expect it to give you some Mike-like hang time but, it will make you look the part.
Onitsuka Tiger ALTY
Onitsuka Tiger is one of the oldest shoe companies to have come out of Japan. For years they have been synonymous with retro sneakers. The Onitsuka Tiger ALTY was styled on a shoe that was initially designed for the Rome Games – way back in 1960. This very cool leather sneaker has a sole that was inspired by 1970s training shoes. Onitsuka Tiger Fun Fact – Bruce Lee rocked a pair of Tigers in his last movie Game of Death.
Run DMC X Adidas Superstar 80S
Run DMC taught us that it’s like that and that’s the way it is and more importantly how to rock the Shell Toe Adidas. In fact, fans would hold their Adidas sneakers in the air to salute the hip-hop trio at concerts. Adidas released the Run DMC X Adidas Superstar 80S to pay homage to the rappers and their 25th anniversary as signees. It features leather uppers, black stripes and a Jam Master J heel tab – the gold rope chain dubrae is a nice touch. These bad boys are somewhat of a contradiction – so 80s and yet so fresh.
Reebok Shaq Attack
Reebok recently enlisted its first signature athlete, Shaquile O’neal to assist with the launch of the pumped up Shaq Attack. Reebok originally released a Shaq line back in 1992 which was a dominant rookie year for O’neal. It has been spruced a little and is now back with a vengeance. Each pair has a hangtag and printed insoles. It’s accompanied by an Orlando Magic inspired white and black upper and metallic blue synthetic splurges on the tongue as well as along the collar – definitely one for the pumped up kick lover.
