We’re exploring the best Sunday spots in South Africa (see Cape Town’s here) and with the end of the year just around the corner, and everyone feeling the strain of 2011, especially with this year’s sultry summer heat, what better way to combat that pressure than by chilling out with friends at some of Joburg’s hottest spots…
Nicci Beach, located in the heart of Wild Waters in Boksburg, is definitely a Sunday must. Think swaying palm trees, cocktails, delicious food and their speciality Sublime Sundays where bikinis are encouraged and the party starts from 2pm ‘til late. Inside you’ll find the Ultra Lounge with three main bars and a sound system that will rock your Sunday blues away. The age limit is strictly ladies over 21 and guys over 23, the vibe is refreshingly cool and the food and drink on offer of top quality. Also check them out on the Nicci Beach Facebook Page.
If you are up for a more chilled vibe, then Espresso in Parkhurst (23A 4th Avenue, Parkhurst) should definitely be your Sunday destination of choice. Espresso is well-known for its excellent food, great eye-candy and that perfect sidewalk café ambiance. It’s been around for 10 years and has become a neighbourhood favourite – ideal for people watching and even better for those Sundays when you feel like indulging in tasty food, good wine, great company and friendly service.
Another Joburg gem, Mykonos Sundays has recently been making waves in the City of Gold. Mykonos Sundays, obviously on a Sunday, is for everyone – from the cool cocktail sipping fashionistas to the cool movers on the dancefloor. Partygoers can enjoy light snacks and a wide array of drinks while some of the country’s finest entertainers keep patrons tapping their toes day and night. Naturally Mykonos Sundays’ flash mob bikini babes, spiked vodka slush puppies and 30ft crystal clear pool are all major attractions. The dress code is classy beach wear, and yes, bikinis are allowed – if it’s sexy and stylish it’s ok!
