Mercedes Benz SA has joined Africa Fashion International to host Jo’burg Fashion Week, Cape Town Fashion Week, and Africa Fashion Week for the following three years – this new partnership means a bigger platform for local and other African designers to showcase their talent and designs.
Speaking of talent and design, this year’s MBFWJ hosted some amazing men’s collections form some of South Africa’s best designers – here’s a look at the top trends form the menswear collections:
CSquared
CSquared opened their show with a strong Russian theme and the collection had a cool urban feel to it – this is the perfect collection for young trendsetting guys. Key trends included trench coats with cinched-in waists, sequenced jackets and waistcoats, bright colours and patterns, and bow ties.
Porsche Design
The Porsche Design collection was part of the Hyde Park Collective Show, and had a sporty vibe to it – a great man’s man range of clothes for guys that like to keep it simple yet stylish.
Key trends included sport’s jackets, colourful golf shirts, sport’s bags and trainers.
David Tlale
David Tlale is usually not known to do menswear, but he included a few pieces for the guys in his MBFWJ collection. In typical David Tlale style his menswear was designed with fashion conscious men in mind. Key trends included layered and draped elements, bold prints, leather pants, and detailed tailoring.
Distinctive Man
The Distinctive Man collection had a strong Zulu theme to it – leopard prints combined with traditional tailoring gave a really cool “African” inspired range. Key trends included leopard print Ts, pops of colour, and long tailored coats.
Fabiani
Fabiani is know for their spectacular menswear collections and their MBFWJ show was no exception – they brought back the old school charm with an “Old London” styled collection complete with an English Bulldog walking the runway. Key trends included double breasted suits, sporty cardigans, leather jackets, cropped pants, bow ties, and retro specs.
Siyethemba Ngwenya
The Siyethemba Ngwenya featured some cool up and coming winter trends in a young urban style with really fun and on trend styling. Key trends included graphic Ts, denim jackets, drop crotch pants, and silver sheen jackets.
