Buddha Ta, Joburg
We sometimes get mesmerised by international grandeur that we often forget that we also have world class nightlife in our backyard. Buddha Ta in Fourways (JHB, South Africa) is a really chilled and vibrant hangout. The Buddha themed cocktail lounge has become a popular hangout for the sophisticated. It has four bars, mingling areas, lounge areas and restaurant seating. Go there and consider yourself enchanted.
This Cuban fish restaurant and cocktail bar has the reputation the size of a cathedral. Floridita was founded in 1817 and was a popular haunt for many intellectuals (including Ernest Hemmingway). It is also the birth place of the strawberry daiquiri. Today, Floridita still maintains its vintage sheen and is frequented by local revellers and scores of tourists and the seafood is epic.
Please Don’t Tell, New York USA
Yes, this bar does have an outlandish name but the concept is rather cool. Please Don’t Tell or rather PDT is a “clandestine” cocktail bar. Visitors enter through a “secret” entrance – a phone booth at the famous hotdog joint, Crif Dogs. PDT is charming and its concept is unique. You can even order food from Crif Dogs while you still at the bar. Amongst PDT’s renown concoctions, a highlight is the Staggerac, a Sazerac comprising of 140-proof bourbon and absinthe.
This is one of the finest cocktail lounges in all of Denmark. Ruby is in an 18th century apartment. Unfortunately it has an unmarked door so it may be a bit tricky finding it for first timers but when you do – jackpot. Its cocktail menu changes at least four times a year so expect some eclectic alcohol splendour. Chill on a chesterfield couch and take in the good vibes and vibey drinks.
Tippling Club, Singapore
This restaurant and cocktail bar can be described as a renaissance of the senses. Tippling Club is a dining experience that would be hard to matched and even if you not hungry, the drinks are from another planet, no sorry another galaxy. The presentation of the cuisine and drinks can be described as a work of art. Attention to detail is obvious. The food is brilliant and the menu is changed on a monthly basis. Their concoction are absolute gems, for example, try the Nitro Martini. Nitrogen is actually used to enhance the flavours of the drink.
