The Wacky Wine Weekend in the Western Cape takes place from the 2nd to 5th June and this year marks the eighth anniversary of the Robertson Wine Valley’s biggest annual wine festival. With 50 wineries showcasing their wines and with countless key attractions and programs, both old favourites and unique enjoyments, this great event is a must. The best part is because of the numerous wineries taking part you can tailor-make your program to your liking and zig-zag across the valley visiting one winery after the other.
All you need is to do is purchase a “passport” at their first port of call at R80 per person, which acts as registration to the weekend, and takes the form of a stylish tasting glass. Visitors also get “Friends of the Valley” vouchers (in the programme), containing special offers redeemable after the Wacky Wine Weekend, valid for six months.
Accommodation is also available if you want to stay over in the valley and whether you are an entertainment -seeker, a beginner or a wine aficionada, there is something for everyone with “Seriously Wine Thursday”, “Wine Up Friday”, “Full On Wacky Saturday” or their “Wine Down Sunday”.
As part of the Robertson Wine Valley’s commitment to ensure a safe festival, a zero tolerance policy is implemented towards drinking and driving and visitors can make use of the Buddy Bus (this enables groups of seven or more to hire a chauffeur-driven mini-bus) or use the Designated Driver Programme (where designated drivers will be rewarded with a whole host of ‘complimentary’ including: free coffee, soft drinks, coupons and special deals).
