The Photo & Film Expo is widely regarded as the continent’s leading event catering to the photographic and film-making communities.
It is also regarded as one of the most educational industry events in the world with over 100 unique workshops offered free to attendees! That’s all great if you’re an enthusiast wanting to learn the ‘ins and outs’ of the industry, or a hardcore professional keen to keep up to date with the latest trends and techniques… But some people aren’t interested in that.
Some people want to be entertained. Well you’re in luck! This year has more activities than ever before. From acrobatic acts to a cinema with the latest local short film releases, to no less than seven gallery areas displaying images from ‘top end’ medium format fine art images to the latest trend of ‘Instagram’ images. See the Image of the Year finalists and much more. Visit the new ‘Behind the Scenes’ area on Thursday to watch the Student Stand Off contest where 12 students compete against each other ‘live’ to get the best shot!
In between the incredible workshops and bountiful entertainment, visitors will want to browse the exhibition stands representing over 350 photographic and film related brands, and take advantage of the ridiculous show specials. Remember though, stocks are limited so get there early! If you run out of budget there’s no need to head home though, because if you have finished trying out all the new releases (numerous products will have their African début at the event) and compared the largest range of gear side by side then it’s time to enter to win your share of almost a million rand worth of prizes at the event.
Every day you visit gives you an extra opportunity to enter the amazing lucky draw where one attendee will head home with a bundle of gear that would make most grown men cry. But that’s just the ‘tip of the iceberg’. Visit exhibitor stands regularly to stand in line to win give-aways from cameras to photographic safaris and much more. Bring your cameras with and compete in interactive contests from ‘quickest draw’ to most creative image. And don’t forget to have your photo taken alongside the biggest camera ever at our event.
For the first time the Photo & Film Expo will have an area showcasing the history of photography and film-making in South Africa. Hosted in collaboration between the Department of Arts and Culture and the City of Joburg, this area will present some of the very first equipment to reach our shores. It’s no wonder online ticket sales are up 100% this year, over 90% of which are for the Special Weekend Pass (limited supply) providing access for all four days. Tickets are available at webtickets.
