It’s a spirit that’s been lovingly created, distilled and enjoyed for years, and what better way to celebrate a delectable whisky than at the FNB Whisky Live Festival? For the eighth year running, the festival returns to Cape Town and Johannesburg to showcase some of the finest whiskies from around the world.
The Cape Town International Convention Centre will host the festival from the 3rd to the 5th of November 2010, while the Johannesburg leg will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre from the 10th to the 12th of November 2010. This year promises to, once again, demonstrate why the FNB Whisky Live Festival is regarded by the global whisky industry as the biggest, liveliest and most entertaining whisky show in the world!
Best of all, you get to taste more than 180 local and international whiskies, including a host of new releases and a range of luxury lifestyle products.
Yet it’s not just the tasting of the variants of whisky that will prove to tantalise your palate and inspire your senses; there are a variety of workshops from some of the world’s most respected and finest distilleries in the world that will be held in the Tasting Hall during the festival.
Global Ambassadors from The Macallan return to The Macallan Maturation Zone, demonstrating the importance of wood in The Macallan distillery process. The new Glen Grant Distillation Zone will be overviewed by Master Distiller, Dennis Malcolm of Glen Grant, who will be discussing the significance of copper stills. The team from Schweppes and LiquidChefs will also be returning with a bigger and more flamboyant whisky-cocktail making area, challenging consumers to rustle up their own whisky cocktail creations.
From there patrons can move on to The Pick ‘n Pay Food and Whisky Pairing Zone. Here you will learn about the fine art of pairing the sublime flavours of whisky with the intricate taste of selected food from fresh oysters to handmade chocolate.
Returning to the festival is Lexus, with its Lexus Connoisseur’s Experience as well as its Whisky Lifestyle Lounge, which provides the perfect setting for networking and entertainment. It will also host, for the first time, The Whisky Boutique Bar, which will offer six premium whiskies that are not available in the Tasting Hall. This new unique deluxe whisky experience will be hosted by world whisky experts Rob Allanson, Editor of Whisky Magazine, and Dave Broom, international award-winning whisky writer.
Whisky Live fans also have the exciting opportunity to win a trip to Scotland, hosted by Scotland’s national tourist board VisitScotland, and Scottish Development International. The lucky winner will experience the Home of Malt Whisky with tickets to Whisky Live in Glasgow in September 2011, and will be accommodated at one of the country’s top distilleries. To enter, please visit Whisky Live’s international website (www.whiskylive.com).
To provide you with the best experience of the festival, the Whisky Live application will be available soon. It can be downloaded onto your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, and will give you a comprehensive guide to the festival’s whiskies.
Various exciting new tickets options for the Tasting Hall, as well as the other features, attractions and workshops are available from Webtickets, which can be accessed via the Whisky Live Festival website (www.whiskylivefestival.co.za)
