They may seem like an unlikely match, but South African music legends Karen Zoid and Vusi Mahlasela will be performing together at The Fugard Theatre in Cape Town on 11 and 12 November.
Zoid is fresh off her nationwide “Afrikaners is Plesierig” 10 year Anniversary tour while Mahlasela will undertake his 20 year “When you Come Back” Anniversary tour in 2012.
With a career span of over a decade, Zoid has made her mark in the music industry with gold album sales and SAMA awards. She has shared the stage with international acts like John Mayer, Annie Lennox, Metallica, Simple Plan, Hothouse Flowers, Seal and UB40. Her 2002 solo album, Poles Apart fast tracked her to fame with the single “Afrikaners is Plesierig”. In 2005, “Small Room” became one of the biggest songs play-listed on radio. In November 2010, Zoid released her latest studio album *Terms & Conditions.
Mahlasela, or as many South Africans know him “The Voice” is a singer, songwriter, poet and activist who released his popular debut album When You Come Back in 1992. Mahlasela has released eight albums over the past two decades, notching up gold and platinum status, as well as several SAMA awards. Having released his latest studio album Say Africa in November 2010, Mahlasela also recently performed with Paul Simon in New York and comes to The Fugard Theatre fresh off a US tour with folk music icon Ray Lamontagne.
