One of the original pioneers and innovators of hip-hop, turntablism and modern DJing, Grandmaster Flash, will be headlining the Red Bull Studio Live Stage at Rocking the Daisies this year on October 5 – courtesy of Red Bull Mobile.

There are few artists alive in the world today followed by such acclaim and accomplishment. One of the founding pioneers of Hip-Hop, Grandmaster Flash is without a doubt one of the most well-known and formative artists of our generation as well as many before it.
Born in Barbados in the late 50’s, his parents moved to what would become the birthplace of hip-hop – The Bronx in New York. His peer group included the likes of Afrika Bambaataa, DJ Kool Herc and Kurtis Blow. The very essence of scratching and the nuances that cemented it as an artistic expression of music for decades to come was developed and fine-tuned by Grandmaster Flash on makeshift equipment – belt-driven turntables and improvised mixers. These tools were never intended to be used as musical instruments but in the hands of Flash spawn the viable art form that is turntablism became what it is today.
Grandmaster Flash’s inclusion in this year’s Rocking The Daisies Festival is a milestone in a string of incredible live acts to have graced the Red Bull Studio Live stage, and a “bucket-list” artist for many a hip-hop head. Anyone who can honestly claim to be a fan of hip-hop, electronica and dance music will cherish the opportunity to say, “I’ve seen Grandmaster Flash live!”
