The Good Food & Wine Show was a sensation in Cape Town and Joburg this year. Now it’s Durban’s turn to find out what the food world is plating up and which wines are becoming popular accompaniments.
From Thursday, 25 November 2010 to Sunday, 28 November 2010, the Durban Exhibition Centre will host an impressive array of top local and international chefs who will demonstrate the trends that are being practiced in kitchens and restaurants around the world. Nine food and wine theatres will fill the venue’s floor, with additional speciality areas that are dedicated to the spices and luxuries of gourmet lifestyle.
Not only will you have the opportunity to learn from the masters of fine cuisine – including Eric Lanlard and Reza Mahammed as well as those who appreciate and embrace our fresh local produce such as Justin Bonello, sommeliers will improve your palate and knowledge of the kinship between magnificent wines and delectable food.
The ‘Cool Wines for Hot Climates’ session focuses on wine styles that are suitable for the scorching African summers, with a particular emphasis on Rosé wines. ‘Vinous Tour de France’ pays tribute to the most important wine-producing country in the world, showcasing prominent wines and their diverse origins and grape varieties. A champagne tour aptly titled ‘Bubbles, Darling’ takes you through the cellar of sparkling wines, from New Zealand to France and from Italy to South Africa.
The brand new ‘Wines from Around the World Theatre’ will be a highlight of the show. Australian wine sommeliers Ben Edwards and Daniel Sims will be your hosts, exposing you to the delights of exquisite, international wine tastings and offering useful hints on what style of wine compliments the meal on your table.
This is just a taste (for want of a better phrase) of what Durban’s Good Food and Wine Show will be presenting to you next week. If the feedback from the Cape Town and Joburg shows is anything to go by, Durban will be indulgent!
Tickets are available through Computicket.
