South Africa’s only film festival dedicated entirely to documentaries, the Encounters South African International Documentary Film Festival, visits Johannesburg and Cape Town from the 9th – 26th June. It will showcase a selection of documentary films from around the world, with a particular focus on South African work, and also includes varied features screenings, panel discussions and workshops for aspiring film-makers.
Documentaries are a global phenomenon and this year filmgoers are offered a brilliant and diverse selection of more than 50 films which include top award winning titles fresh from international festivals and eight that will receive their World Premières at Encounters.
This is the premier documentary festival on the African continent, so it’s not to be missed! Venues for Cape Town are Nu Metro V&A Waterfront and On Broadway, Long Street, and venues for Jo’burg are Nu Metro Hyde Park and The BioScope.
