The month of October is fraught with talented musicians who are arriving on our shores to entertain their most dedicated fans, and next week is no exception. Award-winning Kiwi-Aussie super group Crowded House will be playing their greatest, and most-beloved, hits in three cities this week.
Many have questioned who will be the Don’t Dream It’s Over hit makers’ opening act. We can proudly announce that one of our own awesome and award-winning singer-songwriters, Farryl Purkiss, has been invited to join Crowded House on the South African leg of their upcoming tour.
Purkiss gathered a dedicated following with his award-winning album Fruitbats & Crows, and has basked in the attention he’s received through radio and television support, particularly with his single Kissing Devils On the Cheek. He has played to sold out venues around the country and won his first SAMA earlier this year. What is also noteworthy is that one of his tracks was synced into the popular drama series Private Practice.
But Purkiss puts all of this success behind when he considers his invitation to play with Crowded House in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg. “Crowded House is one of the most influential Australian rock bands of all time,” he says. “It’s such an honour to have been invited to perform on the same stage as them.”
And so it should be! This multi-platinum selling Australian band, who since 1985 have given us unforgettable tunes such as Weather With You (which resulted in every international spotlight turning their way) has won many awards, including Brit Award for International Group of the Year in 1994 and an MTV Music Award for Don’t Dream It’s Over.
Crowded House will kick off their tour on 26 October 2010 at the Grand Arena in Cape Town. Durban can expect the ICC Arena to be rocking out on 28 October. The tour culminates with two shows at Carnival City in Johannesburg on 29 and 30 October.
Tickets are still available, so log on to Computicket to book your seat at this must-see concert. You can also get a taste of what Purkiss will be offering by viewing the video for his new single, Creeping Up On Me:
