In 2008, My Coke Fest brought some of the world’s finest rock bands to South Africa for yet another all day festival with incredible rock music that filled the ears and increased the heart rates of over 80,000 people.
One band that everyone was keen to see was 30 Seconds to Mars. The world class, arena crushing rock trio featuring Jared Leto on lead vocals/guitar, Shannon Leto on drums and Tomo Milicevic on guitar exuded an energy that was met with approval from the South African public, and we craved more. Much more!

And the prayers of many 30 Seconds to Mars fans have been answered. Thanks to 5FM and M-Net, the trio is due to land on South African soil yet again to headline a massive world tour in support of their new album ‘This is War’. They will take to the stage on the 19th of November at the Coca-Cola Dome Johannesburg and in Cape Town on the 20th and 21st of November at the Grand Arena, GrandWest.
In 2002 they released their self-titled debut album. This was followed by ‘A Beautiful Lie’ (2005), of which three tracks were primarily written in Cape Town, including the title song. It subsequently produced two Top 5 Modern Rock singles in ‘From Yesterday’ and ‘The Kill’ which set a record for the longest running hit in the history of Modern Rock radio
Their latest release ‘This is War’ (2009) has been called their strongest and most accomplished work to date. With the help of two of the most influential producers in the world: Flood (U2, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Smashing Pumpkins) and Steve Lillywhite (U2, Rolling Stone, Peter Gabriel), the band was allowed the freedom and confidence to explore different sound, textures and ideas. The result: a triumphant sound that builds on the vision laid out in their previous releases.
Tickets are available from Computicket ranging from R221 to R374.
